So it seems that for one celebrity artists, the world of Online Poker is the next stage to conquer. Robbie Williams Fun Poker has recently launched and is already trialling its’ Beta version. Don’t worry though – they pride themselves on being a Free Poker site – something that unfortunately for me, doesn’t really make it any better.

With an average age of audience of … what 15? … the Entertainer himself is not actually a gambling man himself, yet has decided to venture down this path as it is a ‘logical progression’ since he likes to play cards occasionally. A great role-model for his audience and a nice way to encourage underage gambling among friends! Don’t get me wrong, we like gambling here – but even we find it inappropriate when it’s pitched to an audience where over half can’t even buy cigarettes!

The next major problem that we foresee for the brand is that Robbie Williams is no stranger to addictions, having openly admitted drug and alcohol abuse in the past – so to see him try and round it off with yet another addictive game – online poker, seems to be a bit of an ironic step backwards. I guess since the site is based on free poker games that we shouldn’t feel so bad for him, but considering the tournaments cost actual money to enter and that half the prizes involve his merchandise or even meeting him face-to-face, this could be a silly mistake.

We have to say, that as far as celebrity endorsements go, this is one of the cheaper ones. If Robbie Williams was a self-professed gambling man, then we would understand what this is about – but since he is not, we feel that maybe he should stick to what he is good at, rather than ambitiously allow his face to be plastered all over a cheap imitation of the Zynga phenomenon.

Don’t play them when you’re out of position. If you have a big hand though, you can try to trap them and make them think that you’re weak. Lure them in for the killing blow during the turn or the river if you have the nuts.
Sharks are the solid players who play tight-aggressive and are hard to read. They have a certain leel of comfort with the game, so they risk whenever they feel that it’s a good time to. You should definitely not play them when you’re out of position since they’ll just toy with you that way. Beat them with a good hand, something that you really feel in your gut that they won’t ever beat.
The rock is like a lizard basking under the midday sun. They just wait there until they get very good hands, which does make them predictable. They don’t play a lot of hands, but they take their chances with hands that are more than just pairs. When they do play a hand, you may want to fold automatically unless you have a really strong hand.
Fish is another word for newbie in the poker world. They’re still weak and play a lot of hands for kicks. They chase pots on draws, hoping to win it big with whatever hand they may have. Online poker has plenty of these suckers, which are a constant source of steady cash if you really are a solid enough player.
Same with the maniac is the bomb. They just explode randomly and scare everyone else on the table, hence the name. They do bluff and raise a lot, so be very careful with them since they’re more unpredictable. The best approach is to check raise them when you hit a good hand at the flop to capitalize on their raises during pre-flop.
The recreational player is just like you and me with some extra cash to gamble with. He has already set that money aside as an expense for a night of fun at the poker table, so you don’t have to feel bad about taking his money. They just gamble, so you can just play them like you would with fish. Professionals pay the bills with money taken from such people, so there are no hard feelings at all.
There’s the high roller, who has a lot of money to burn on the table. Usually, it’s some retired dude looking for some fast cash and good times, but they do know they way around the table. They play very aggressively since they have such a high bankroll to bully opponents with, so pick your hands carefully. Play them only when you really have the nuts since the pot will go up really high when he’s in the picture.
Next is the gentleman gambler, who is actually competent at what he does on the poker table. You may not see him a lot, but he does set aside some time to play and hone his skills. Whenever he’s playing, he’s in it to win it. This competitiveness means that they’re tough to play against, but are easily flustered when they do lose big.
Scared money means a lot of small ball and safe play. His bankroll is below the limit and he’s looking to double or even triple up. They’re nervous though since losing would mean going home with holed in his pockets. If you have a couple of high rollers on the table, you’d expect to see them. He tends to pick a hand and just run with it, especially when the pot is getting big. Temptation is his greatest weakness.
There are properly bankrolled players that aren’t too badly mixed up financially and play quite well. As opposed to an overly bankrolled player who may also be as skilled, but is more of a grinder in that he plays in limits where he has more than enough to join in. Both do well on the table and may prescribe to any of the other styles listed above. The overly bankrolled player does tend to play like a high roller though, so keep that in mind.
